About Us

Fairfield Cares Community Coalition, established in 2009, is a town-wide organization including parents, school representatives, local business leaders, law enforcement personnel, clergy, counseling professionals and youth services organizations.

Fairfield Cares is dedicated to preventing underage drinking and substance abuse in Fairfield, increasing awareness of the risks of various forms of addiction, promoting healthy choices and behaviors to increase personal wellness, and strengthening community well-being and resilience.

Promoting Wellness & Healthy Choices

Fairfield Cares Community Coalition knows that our strength lies in our actions, not just our words. In addition to our existing school-based initiatives, we are establishing new programs that not only help prevent substance abuse but also promote healthy choices and behaviors to increase personal wellness and strengthen community resilience. We’re driven by a firm belief in the power of people working together to make an impact.


PROGRAMS
•Annual Freshman Forum on substance abuse established and held at FLHS and FWHS.

•“Life after High School” program piloted at FWHS and conducted each year.

•Peer norms and family norms identified as priority risk factors based on needs assessment of the Fairfield community.

•First-ever parent survey conducted to gain insights into perceptions and attitudes about youth alcohol and substance use.

•Social norms campaign launched in both high schools and middle schools.

•High school programs on Stress and the Teenage Brain initiated.

•“Got Drugs” presentation and panel Q&A on marijuana and Rx drug abuse.

•Suicide prevention mini-grant approved / several coalition members and school officials trained

oFour coalition members trained as QPR (Question/Prepare/Refer) suicide prevention trainers.
